bread-based cosmetics

At Rebread, we’ve developed an innovative cosmetics line using bread surplus, contributing to food waste reduction within the food industry while promoting a circular economy (upcycling). Our technology not only minimizes food waste but also creates new opportunities in the cosmetic market, offering eco-friendly products with scientifically proven skin benefits.

Innovative Oil-Based Scrub

Our flagship cosmetic solution is an oil-based scrub made from stale bread under the Floura brand. We transformed unsold bread into a cosmetic raw material - an exfoliant for our scrub. We are the first to register both wheat and rye stale bread powders in the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients (INCI).

The final product is fully biodegradable, enriched with oils from seeds and grains reminiscent of bread, offering a pleasant fragrance. The bread particles gently exfoliate dead skin cells while supporting the skin's natural hydrolipidic barrier.

Multi-Functional Benefits of the Bread Scrub

Properties

stale bread contains vitamin C, polyphenols, micro- and macro-elements and fatty acids, which provides a versatile skin care effect

EFFECTS ON SKIN

the bread combined with selected oils provides effective exfoliation, protection and hydration of the hydrolipid barrier

High yield

1 tonne of rescued bread gives 13,500 jars (250g each) of natural body scrub. Bread represents 30% of the cosmetic composition

Eco-potential

market potential comparable to coffee scrubs with a lower environmental footprint, using local secondary raw materials

Innovative Cosmetic Bioferment

We are currently working on an innovative cosmetic ingredient – a bioferment made from fermented bread and lactic acid bacteria. Multiple applications of bioferments underpin a new range of body, face, hand and footcare products. Our innovations target conscious consumers who value high-quality cosmetics that positively impact health and the environment.

This innovation aligns with Rebread’s mission of transforming unused bread into resource – a versatile local ingredient that can be used as a base of natural cosmetic lines, fully in line with circular economy principles.
